mesmiranda replied to your post: ‘Rape face’? Really? That’s incredibly offensive and potentially triggering.
((I’m not the anon, but I do see how the use of “rape face” could trigger the memories of a survivor. Possibly a warning on the top of the reblog along the lines of “trigger warning: rape” would help?))(( Ah, I suppose I could’ve or should’ve, but it was honestly meant as a joke and I didn’t really think the humor could offend anyone.
It was itself in reference to the rper going ‘And this is his rape face’, which was attached to a gif of sexual nature, and neither were marked triggering or NSFW, so I suppose it didn’t occur to me? I too can see how it could possibly be triggering to survivors but it’s such a popular term that literally pops up constantly and is almost never marked I just didn’t see the need…
Which is shame on me, I know. ))((again, given it involves a character from the Hellblazer fandom, I don’t think a warning is necessary as the fact that it’s Stanley should be warning enough. I’m not unsympathetic of survivors, I promise, but this is an rp blog and the comment wasn’t meant as an insult or to make light of the subject—in fact I got the impression that Charles was legit upset about it, which he should be, because Stanley is a creep. I can see how it might be offensive if Charles had been all ‘OMG YAY’ but he was more like ‘DNW’))
((Yes, but in all fairness, someone who has no idea you’re both RP blogs, from the Hellblazer and XMFC fandoms respectfully, could come across that and be triggered regardless. You both do very good jobs of writing your characters, but as a lot of people have pointed out, intent is not magical.
I think a trigger warning is probably best, in the header, so that people who run across the post on their dashboard are warned as to what’s coming and can avoid it if possible.))
